Women who are on breastfeeding and pregnant simultaneously, rush to many question and concerns- Is breastfeeding safe during pregnancy? Will the fetus get affected by this? Will this affect my weaning child? Can I breastfeed two children one time? All these feelings and questions are comprehensible. There is no such reason to discontinue breastfeeding while you are pregnant and if you want to do so, understanding its benefits and risks. Several mothers not only breastfeed their new born babies but also their older child, which is called as ‘tandem nurse’.
Some women may fear that they won’t be able to have enough food to nourish both- the baby growing inside and produce adequate breast milk for the nursing. Females need not have to worry about this as our bodies are amazing and they are aware of what exactly should be done. All you have to do is maintain well-balanced diet and stay health by eating food whenever you are hungry and drinking water whenever you are thirsty.
Here are some normal things which you need to be aware of as your nursing during pregnancy:
During pregnancy your nipples and breasts may be more sensitive.
There may be a bit less supply of milk.
Toddler who can speak may complain that there is a change in taste of your breast milk. This may happen because while your pregnancy is getting end, breast milk changes to a type of milk named colostral. It is the thick milk a bit yellowish in color produced in your body while you are pregnant and for the first few days after you give birth to your baby.
Few mothers are worried that nipple stimulation throughout breastfeeding will lead to premature labor. Stimulation of nipple activates your body’s production of the hormone oxytocin that helps with milk letdown and also plays a role in the contractions you have during labor. Fortunately, the quantity of oxytocin released is less to stimulate labor under usual conditions. You may experience mild contractions but that are expected and rare.
If you are at risk for early labor than the release of hormone oxytocin is an only concern and doctor or healthcare expert has recommended you a strict bed rest, without lovemaking or breast play allowed.
Breastfeeding at the time of pregnancy is normally considered to be safe but there are some cases where your doctor can consult you to wean the child such as:
If you are at risk for preterm labor or have high-risk pregnancy
If you are carrying twins
If you are told not to have sex while pregnant.
If you are going through bleeding or uterine pain
If you are experiencing such symptoms, you need to contact your doctor or GYN to decide whether weaning is the best option for you, your unborn child, and your nursling. If you choose to breastfeed while pregnant, it is very necessary to look upon your diet for the health of your unborn baby and nursing child. If your child is eating other food besides breast milk you need to consume 500 supplemental calories in a day or if your child is less than 6 months old than you should consume 650 more calories.
